David Lerner LAc, MTCM
David Lerner, L.Ac., M.TCM, EAMP, has been a Licensed Acupuncturist since 1994. After graduating from the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NIAOM), David completed post-graduate training at the Beijing Cancer Institute and the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine where he trained with doctors specializing in oncology, gynecology, gastroenterology and dermatology.
David received his Diploma in Comprehensive Nutrition from Huntington College of Health Sciences, and advanced training in the ETMS integrative medical system with Nutritionist and Master Herbalist Donnie Yance and Dwight McKee, MD. He’s been trained in The Bredesen Protocol, taught by Dale Bredesen, MD, an evidence based treatment designed to prevent/improve cognitive decline, and he’s a provider with Apollo Health. David also completed training with Terry Wahls, MD, and is a Certified Wahl’s Protocol Practitioner. This nutritional and lifestyle plan has been clinically verified to benefit patients with neurological, autoimmune and metabolic disorders.
David was a clinical and didactic faculty member at NIAOM from ’00-’03, the herbalist at the Kang Wen Community Clinic for chronic illness from ’99-’02, and a guest lecturer at the Jade Institute and Bastyr University. David co-authored a paper that was published in Clinical Perspectives in Gastroenterology titled “The Use of Chinese Herbal Medicine in Gastroenterology and Hepatology”, as well as a paper on the benefits of vitamin D that appeared in the Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Journal.
Utilizing the Neuropuncture style of acupuncture, David treats a variety of disorders with a focus in treating chronic pain conditions as well as mood, digestive and gynecological disorders. He is a preferred provider for various insurance companies including Regence/Uniform and Premera/Lifewise.
In addition to practicing acupuncture, David offers functional medicine consults, which he does under the medical supervision a physician at Heart of Wellness. From ’10-’15, David worked in conjunction with Evan Hirsch, MD at The Hirsch Center for integrative Medicine, where he acquired extensive experience in functional medicine. This style of care utilizes in-depth lab analysis to help guide customized treatment plans, based on each patient’s biochemical individuality, with an emphasis on searching for the root cause of illness. Diet, herbal medicine, nutraceuticals and lifestyle interventions form the foundation of treatment. David’s practice focus is well suited for patients wanting to reach optimal levels of health or looking for cutting edge care in preventative cardiology (arterial health, lipid management), chronic fatigue syndrome/long covid, metabolic health/insulin resistance, hormonal health as well as many digestive, neurological and autoimmune disorders.
David is very comfortable interfacing with conventional medical practitioners, has a vast referral network, and a good sense of how to best utilize the various schools of integrative medicine. He is passionate about combining the innate wisdom of East Asian medicine with targeted functional medicine protocols relying on evidence based data.
