Easily recognized by its fuzzy tan skin and vibrant green flesh specked with tiny black seeds, kiwi fruit is dense with powerful nutrients to support good health. Adding kiwi to your daily diet, may help improve your health in many ways.

Kiwi contains antioxidants such as vitamin C, which supports the immune system and promotes healthy skin. The fruit is an excellent source of dietary fiber, which is beneficial for digestive and cardiovascular health. Kiwi also contains an enzyme known as actinidain that helps the body break down protein. The kiwi seeds are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids that are beneficial to overall health. There is some indication that the various plant compounds (polyphenols) and nutrients in kiwi fruit may also support a healthy sleep cycle.

Kiwi has a tangy, refreshing flavor which can be very sweet or more tart depending on its state of ripeness. Originally known as Chinese Gooseberry (because the fruit was originally cultivated in China), kiwi is now popular worldwide. The name ‘kiwi’ was introduced by New Zealanders who made kiwi their state fruit (and for its resemblance to their state bird!).

There are many ways to add kiwi to your diet: enjoy the fruit sliced or chopped in salads, as an embellishment to entrees, or use in baking muffins and breads.
